NEST/NYTH Gets National Attention in West Glam!

West Glamorgan’s latest NEST/NYTH self‑assessment showcases a year of strong partnership working, innovation and youth‑led progress, recognised nationally by Welsh Government as an excellent example of whole‑system support for children, young people and families.

West Glamorgan has taken great strides in strengthening emotional wellbeing and mental health support for children, young people and families, and we’re delighted to share that these efforts have been recognised at national level. Following the submission of our annual NEST/NYTH self-assessment for 2024/25, Welsh Government have shared positive feedback, praising the region’s commitment to working in partnership, innovation and championing the voices of children and young people.

Across West Glamorgan, partners from health, social care, education and the third sector have worked together to develop a coordinated, whole-system approach including families, carers and young people, which Welsh Government described as an “excellent example” of integrated working, citing the case studies and engagement carried out and the projects across the region that show real impact.

A central theme of their feedback was the rich and varied case studies submitted alongside the assessment. Welsh Government described these as powerful demonstration of NEST in action. Areas of standout progress that Welsh Government have highlighted include Trusted Adults, Co-production and the No Wrong Door approach.

Looking ahead, the programme is committed to further implement and embed a whole systems approach to emotional wellbeing and mental health across the region and continuing to develop the No Wrong Door approach across the region. This will be aided by a dedicated post within the team which will be filled in March funded via the Regional Integration Fund (RIF). Co-production is at the heart of the partnership and strengthening the feedback loop with young people will be a key part of our work going forward.

We’d like to thank our partners and the young people, and families who have helped us reach this point. We would like to reaffirm our ongoing commitment to whole system working to improve the lives of children and young people in Neath Port Talbot and Swansea.
